At the March 20 Community Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting, hosted by Senator Brian Kavanagh, the Battery Park City Authority (BPCA) announced updated construction scheduling for the BPC North/West Resiliency Project.
These updates differ from the sequencing previously outlined in the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that were presented to the Gateway Tenants Association membership earlier this year.
Key Change: Esplanade Construction to Begin Earlier Than Expected
BPCA now anticipates that construction on the Esplanade, adjacent to Gateway (the west-facing side), will begin in late April or early May 2026, rather than Fall 2026 as previously projected.
When work begins, the Esplanade from the volleyball court south to Albany Street will be closed. Exact fence-line locations are still being finalized.
Construction Segments: 6A North and 6A South
BPCA has divided this portion of the Esplanade into two construction zones:
6A North
o Boundary: Extends from the volleyball court south to the Gateway 400 (375) Building
o Note: The restaurant falls just within this northern section
o Estimated closure: ~29 months
6A South
o Boundary: Begins at the Gateway 400 (375) Building and continues south
o Estimated closure: ~50 months

Next Community Meeting
BPCA has agreed to schedule the next GTA/BPCA resiliency Zoom meeting before construction begins on the Gateway adjacent segment of the Esplanade.
Estimated construction duration for South Esplanade is 50 months, starting Spring 2026.
